ABOUT |
A bit about the (wildflower)girl behind the website. |
My name is Leah and I am a twenty-one year old student from a small town outside of Belfast, Northern Ireland. (I would say the name of the town, but chances are you will have never heard of it. Don't worry: most of the people from said town probably have no idea where it is, either.)
I am a law student at Queen's University, Belfast and the end is nigh as I count down the months until I enter my final year. At the time of writing, I should be knee-deep in coursework and revision for my final set of exams, preparing to graduate in July 2015. However, this is not the case. I opted to delay my last year of my LLB when I clicked 'submit' on an application form many moons ago. I can say with conviction that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
That application form was for the 'Study USA' scholarship programme managed by the dedicated team at the British Council NI. A programme involving the successful candidate to uproot themselves for a year to study abroad in the USA and become immersed in American culture and life. I had known of the programme for years and eagerly awaited the time when I was eligible to apply. The rest, as they say, is history. More information on the programme as well as my motivation to apply can be found on the relevant pages of this website.
A few quick facts about myself, before I set you loose to roam freely throughout the pages of this website in true Metallica-esque fashion:

A few quick facts about myself, before I set you loose to roam freely throughout the pages of this website in true Metallica-esque fashion:
- I aspire to enter the legal profession; currently contemplating to opt for the solicitor pathway. I find law to be fascinating and I greatly enjoy studying as many areas as possible. I'm particularly interested in Public/Administrative/Constitutional law. If the new Lord Chancellor indeed abolishes the Human Rights Act 1998, and if the much-relieved second term Prime Minister loses the EU referendum, much of my degree will be rendered obsolete, and I will be sighing in exasperation in my graduation photograph as a result.
- I am a self-confessed current affairs/politics addict. Whether it is NI/UK/USA/EU derived, I'm following it.
- A dark coffee a day helps me work, rest and play.
- I am a music and film buff. (The Eighties and the Nineties were the best.)
- I am fluent in sarcasm, with a working knowledge of American. (As I will discuss, the language barrier is real.)
- I enjoy reading (political works, historical fiction, historical non-fiction top the list) and writing. I will occasionally blog, too.
- Volunteering and community work are passions of mine.
- In another life, I was either a rugby player or a rugby commentator - or both.
